Enhancing Avipro’s Steam Generation Efficiency
With a long-standing reputation in the poultry industry in Mauritius, Avipro faced a critical challenge: how to generate steam more cost-effectively while reducing its environmental impact.
INTRODUCTION
Traditionally reliant on heavy fuel oil, one of the most carbon-intensive fossil fuels, the company sought to transition to a more sustainable energy solution without compromising operational efficiency.
Between 2014 and 2023, Ecoasis developed and implemented a dual-fuel vapour generation system at Avipro’s production site. By integrating poultry fat – a by-product of the company’s operations – into the energy supply, the solution not only reduced fossil fuel consumption, but also promoted a circular economy approach.
This innovative system has delivered substantial cost savings, increased energy efficiency and strengthened Avipro’s sustainability credentials.
THE CHALLENGE
Avipro’s reliance on heavy fuel oil exposed the company to volatile global fuel prices, driving up production costs and reducing profitability. In addition, heavy fuel oil’s high carbon intensity posed significant environmental challenges. At the same time, the production process generated poultry fat as a by-product.

THE SOLUTION
- To address Avipro’s energy challenges, Ecoasis designed and installed a dual-fuel burner system that utilises both heavy fuel oil and poultry fat as energy sources. This flexible system allows the company to switch between fuels based on availability, cost efficiency and production requirements, offering greater operational flexibility.
- At the heart of the system is a high-performance Bosch Boiler, known for its exceptional efficiency and durability. While the initial investment was twice as high as a standard boiler, the device’s superior performance makes it a strategic long-term solution.
- By integrating poultry fat into its energy supply, Avipro has successfully transformed a waste by-product into a valuable energy resource, significantly reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and lowering operational costs. This approach not only improves energy efficiency, but also strengthens the company’s circular economy model.
Ecoasis managed the entire installation process, from logistics coordination to system integration, overcoming the challenges of the remote location while ensuring minimal disruption to the resort’s daily operations.
