INTRODUCTION
In line with its commitment to sustainability, the mall sought to reduce its reliance on fossil-fuel based electricity, lower operational costs and adopt more greener energy practices.
In 2019, Ecoasis delivered the largest rooftop solar installation in Mauritius, providing 30% of the mall’s total electricity consumption. This landmark project significantly reduced the mall’s reliance on the national grid while cutting operational expenses and reinforcing its dedication to environmental responsibility.
Beyond installation, Ecoasis provides ongoing operation, maintenance and monitoring services to ensure that the system operates at peak performance. This case study highlights how the project addressed Bagatelle Mall’s energy challenge and delivered long-term financial and environmental benefits.
THE CHALLENGE
As a high-energy consumer, Bagatelle Mall faced considerable electricity costs due to its continuous demand for power. The mall’s dependence on the national grid also contributed to high carbon emissions, creating a misalignment with its corporate sustainability goals.

THE SOLUTION
- Ecoasis designed and installed a 2MWp rooftop photovoltaic system, optimising the available roof space to maximise energy production while blending into the mall’s existing infrastructure.
- As the largest rooftop solar installation in Mauritius, the system sets a new standard for commercial solar integration. The installation features Tier-1 Suntech photovoltaic panels, renowned for their high energy yield and durability, alongside SolarEdge inverters that improve efficiency and enable real-time performance monitoring.
- Careful planning and execution ensured that installation was completed without disrupting retail operations. Ecoasis continues to provide comprehensive operation, maintenance and monitoring services, helping the mall proactively manage performance and optimise energy output.
The system now supplies 30% of Bagatelle Mall’s total electricity consumption, delivering significant cost savings while reducing its carbon footprint and reinforcing its role as a sustainability leader.
